Larry's List of Words & Phrases That Should Be Banned Skewered and Burned to a Crisp in the Forum of Public Usage
- Quite Frankly: Quite frankly, the phrase "quite frankly" is tossed into conversations far too often. People use it to make themselves sound more intelligent. Let's be frank. Or let me be perfectly frank, since it would never do to be imperfectly frank, especially if you've been Frank all your life and don't know any other way. It's not working. I'd be happier with "Quite Tomly" or "Quite Johnly" or even "Quite Amandaly".
- At the End of the Day: At the end of the day, I go home from work. That's it.
- I have issues...There are issues...Health and Safety Issues...: I have issues with the use of the word "issues". Everybody has issues. Life is an issue. I always like to have the latest issue of whatever it is I'm reading. But if I can't get it, I'll settle for an older issue. Health and Safety Issues? Everything is a health and safety issue. Things seem to have reached the point where we are paralysed with anxiety, overcome with angst, obstructed by obtuseness...because there are so many issues to consider. It's becoming a major issue. As for me, sleeping through my alarm clock is a health and safety issue. It affects the health of my livelihood and the safety of my security. Do you have an issue with that?
- Whatnot: The world is overwhelmed with whatnots. I am fed up with everything and whatnot. This morning I crawled out of bed, went into the bathroom, lifted the toilet lid and what did I find there? A whatnot! Actually, it was a willnot. But who's counting? Is anyone keeping track of the unrestrained proliferation of whatnots? No! If you're not careful, one of these days you'll find a whatnot in your whosis.
